Miffy's History

Miffy was born in 1955 by Dick Bruna. Dick Bruna is one of the most famous creators of picture books in the world. The Bruna family was on holiday playing with his fabric toy bunny, father Dick was drawing as usual.
Dick remembered the real pet bunnies he had when he was young and suddenly a bunny appeared on his sheet of paper. For the first time, there she was, our Miffy.
Dick had drawn a girl bunny, simply because he prefered to draw a dress than trousers.

The bunny pair were enjoyed
quite soon the baby came,
with ears so long, and fur so white
and Miffy was her name

This is what Dick wrote with the illustration, and how he created his first book about her. The Miffy in the booklet of 1955 is nearly 50 years old. But in her books, she stay forever young: a child's bunny. In the first Miffy book she looks a bit like a fabric toy animal with somehat clumsy ears, but since 1963 she has become our own cheeky Miffy.
She has two funny straight ears, always looks cheerful with her black eyes, and has many exciting adventures, as you can tell from her book titles:

Miffy goes to stay
Miffy is crying
Miffy at school
Miffy's bicycle
Miffy at the zoo
Miffy at the seaside
Miffy's birthday and
Miffy's dream

All of these books are about the ordinary things in the lives of little bunnies and children. Granddad Dick made the book Miffy in the tent specially for his granddaughter Anne while she was playing in a tent.
Miffy is so famous that Dick Bruna is called 'Miffy's Father' .
